We are delighted to welcome you to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
We take great pride in our School and its children. The School teachers, staff and governors work hard to make sure that the School is a place for our children to learn, build friendships and be safe. We offer the children of Axminster and surrounding areas a Catholic education, welcoming children of all faiths and beliefs who are ready to embrace our values.
The Local Governing body is responsible for the strategic management of the school and will make decisions about a wide range of issues.
The core responsibilities involved are:
• Ensuring accountability
• Acting as a ‘critical friend’ to the Head Teacher
• Monitoring and evaluating the school’s progress
• Budgetary allocation and control
• Planning for the long term future of the school, including buildings and facilities
• Setting the school’s aims and values within an agreed policy framework
• Appointing senior members of staff including the Head Teacher
Due to the new school leadership arrangement, started in September 2016, we are sharing with St Catherine's in Bridport, this year the local governing body will be holding only full local governing body meetings. Any business that's not covered at these meetings will be delegated to working parties. Matters of business carried out outside of scheduled meetings will be fed back to all local governors at the next appropriate full local governing body meeting.
A full training programme is provided for all governors.
Minutes of the Local Governing Body meetings are made publicly available to view in the school and on the school website, once approved at the next Local Governing Body meeting.

Governors would encourage all parents to complete the annual parent questionnaires in order that the school can evaluate its effectiveness better. In addition, governors would encourage all parents to visit the website operated by OFSTED that allows parents to upload their views about the school.
