Home learning week beginning 11th May 2020

What a difference the sun makes! We hope that you have had a chance to go outside and top up your vitamin D levels, whilst maintaining a safe distance from others.

This week it would have been SAT week for year 6 and it is hard not to feel a little deflated at not having the chance to share how much you have developed academically and in confidence and self belief. However it is important to remember all of these things will stay with you and help you throughout your journey in secondary school. It is also important to remember that this will not impact on your transition into secondary school; we have included a short poem for the year 6 children at this time.

SATs don’t measure sports,

SATs don’t measure art,

SATs don’t measure music,

Or the kindness in your heart.

SATs don’t see your beauty,

SATs don’t know your worth,

SATs don’t see the reasons,

You were put upon this Earth.

SATs don’t see your magic,

How you make others smile,

SATs don’t know how quickly,

You can run a mile.

SATs don’t hear your laughter,

Or see how you’ve come this far,

SATs are just a tiny glimpse,

Of who you really are.

So as you are safe at home,

No longer doing a test,

Remember SATs don’t show everything,

Remember you’re the best!

Maths

  • Please continue to practise your times tables on TTRock Stars. Have a look at the Times Tables page for more information.
  • Remember that on Hit the button on  Top Mark Maths you can practise some of your key math skills.
  • This week we will continue to look at some lessons from the National Academy. We have included links to the national academy learning below. We will move on from Transformation, though if you want to complete the last 5 sessions that would be great! We will continue to look at the year 5 curriculum and complete the first 5 sessions on converting units of measure. If you want to look first at earlier objectives for measure you can go to either the year 1 or 4 pages and complete the learning sessions on these. Year 6 pages also have a section on fractions and it is a great opportunity to revise what we have learnt so far. If you want to look at a different area on the site to practise your previous learning that would also be great.
  • For extra maths support please look at our SEND support page for activities to support all areas and useful websites. There are also some activities to support telling time.
  • You can also complete a section from the maths books, if you were given given one, each day. This will allow you to practise the skills you have learnt so far this year.

Reading

  • By now you should be enjoying your Bug Club account. If there are any problems please let us know.
  • Please continue to read daily. We have included some different reading challenges that can be completed alongside your reading.
  • Try contacting the library to see if you can work on the Book Track Scheme from home.
  • We have also included some reading comprehensions on Fairtrade for you to have a go at. Remember the higher the level number the more difficult the challenge.
Spelling
  • Continue to work on the words from your personal spelling lists. They are words specifically chosen for you from the assessments. If you can't find your list, we'll find a way of getting another to you. We have also included some ideas of different ways to help remember these spellings - see lists below - you need to know Year 3/4 (we've been calling them Set 1) and Year 5/6.

Writing

  • Write each day in your diary. Remember it can also include information about you and your family and friends and compare it to what you would normally be doing during this time.

Topic

  • This week we will be thinking about Fairtrade.
  • We have included some activities for you to complete. You might want to try one of the Fairtrade recipes, colouring mindfulness sheets or one of the Fairtrade challenges.
  • We would also like you to look at the information about Fairtrade and have a go at either writing a persuasive leaflet, poster or letter to persuade someone to switch to fairtrade products. We have included information on persuasive writing and persuasive writing help sheets that we have used in class before, to help you.
