Owl Class - Home Learning 11th May

Hello Owls.  Did you see anything on tv or do anything with your family to celebrate VE day?  This week marks the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale - 200 years since she was born on 12th May 1820.
You have been working so well on Bug Club all of you - some of you are nearly ready to move onto the next book band so all your hard work is paying off!  I can see some of you have opened the books but you need to find all the bugs on the pages and answer the questions before the book is complete.  So keep hunting for the bugs so that you can collect rewards.  Once all the questions are answered, you will find more books in your library.

Here is a selection of learning activities this week:

Maths
-Log onto TTRS to continue learning your tables and increase recall and speed.
-This week's maths attached below looks at number pyramids.  Choose the level appropriate for you.  You may want to try the Y3/4 addition to challenge yourself.

Reading
-Continue to read books on Bug Club, answering the questions throughout the book.  By doing this the book is complete and I can issue you a new one.
-Read books you have at home to your family.  Ask your grown-ups to check your comprehension by asking you questions about the story.

Spelling
-Use Phonics Play to practise your phonics and spellings.
-Use Bug Club phonics activities.
-I have attached a game called 'Spooky Spellings'.  Click on the Year group and then a book from the shelf to choose which words you want to practise.  Drag the candles to spell out the word - you can choose which objects you want to use to spell out the word.
-Continue with your spelling lists.  I will attach the Y3/4 list as well as I have been impressed that some of your now can spell all of the Y2 Common exception words!  This is AMAZING!

English
-This week you can write your own version of the story The Queen's Hat.  It doesn't have to be about the Queen and they don't need to lose their hat!  Choose a character and what goes missing.  Don't forget to plan first and keep it similar to the structure of the book to support your ideas.

Science
-Listen to the song Hey Little Frog.  It explains the lifecycle of a frog!  Draw and label the lifecycle of a frog using the correct vocabulary.

Topic
-The Queen's Hat is set in London.  London is the capital of England.  Do you know all 4 capitals of the UK and the surrounding seas?  Watch the BBC video to find out.  Then write some sentences to describe the four places, comparing the weather, landmarks and how different they are to each other.
-Frogs around the world.  Find out about frogs from other places, such as the Flying Frog, the Black Rain Frog and the Indian Bullfrog. Can you pinpoint on a map or globe which countries they live in and what continents they are from? Record your information in your exercise book.
-Listen to the song about Florence and her work during the Crimean War.  I have also attached an activity sheet as well.

Art
Create your own illustrations of the places mentioned in your story.

PE
-Check out the whole school website page for activities to get active.

Best wishes,

Miss Burnell
