Owl Class - Home Learning 20th April 2020

Hello Owls.  I hope you are enjoying some of the activities I have sent home already in your learning packs.  Keep going with these if you still have activities planned.  Remember if you access Bug Club to quiz on all of the sections throughout the books, there are little bug icons to click on to quiz the book as you go along.  This then registers the book as read and complete so that new books can be allocated.  I can see lots of you are also doing the spelling and phonics lessons planned as well.  Great work!
Here are some more ideas for home learning in the coming week:

Maths
- Continue to practise your times tables on TTRS.
- Learn to tell the time to the nearest quarter of an hour.  O'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.  If you are confident with this - can you tell it to the nearest 5 minutes?
  • Draw attention to time. Mention the time at different points in the day. For example, you could say, ‘it’s 5 o’clock – time for tea,’ or ‘it’s 7 o’clock – time for a bath.’
  • Do fun activities that include measuring time:
    • use a timer for baking
    • play a board game with a sand timer
    • use a stop watch to time a race or challenge
  • It is also important to know how many minutes there are in an hour and also in a day.
-  Create a card game that is based around making number pairs to twenty that can then be played as a family.
- Using the activity below in the resources section, can you make some 2D shapes - can you identify all the properties of the 2D shapes?  How many sides does it have? Vertices?  Is it symmetrical or have any right angles?  How about seeing how many different shapes you can make with the same number of sides.  Be creative!
- See if you can answer the shape discussion cards (see resources section below).

Reading
- Continue to read regularly with members of your family.  You each have books allocated on Bug Club as well as reading books you have at home.  Miss Hutton and I have been so impressed with the amount of reading you have been doing at home so keep going!
- I have added some reading book activities below - there are lots to choose from.  This can be an ongoing activity using different books.

Spelling
- In your learning packs you have your spelling lists to practise and try to make up new ways to remember them or use the mnemonics we made in class - can you remember some of them?  I have also added phonics and spelling activities for you to do on Bug Club - have a go!

English
- Draw a picture of your house and label it.
- Write sentences using adjectives to describe a room in your house.
- Draw and write a storyboard of Jack and the Beanstalk.

Topic
Our new topic is all about Monarchs.
- Watch the BBC bitesize clips about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth and have a go at the activities.  See link below.
- Take a look at the Kings and Queens knowledge organiser.  Have you heard of any of these famous people before?  How about using the information to create a 5-10 question quiz to share with your family?
-Enjoy singing along to one the 'Out of the Ark' songs.  In Week1 you will find the 'Together' song that you all know!  There is a song for every day of the week.
-Complete a scavenger hunt (see resources).

PE
-I have also attached a link below to Super Movers so that you can chose your favourite one or try a new activity.
-Check out the PE activities in the links on the whole school page.
