Owl Class - Home Learning 27th April 2020

Hello Owls.  I have included some new and exciting activities to support new topics this term.  Our class text is The Queen's Hat - I bet you can guess what this will be about?  This is a funny book and structured in a such a way that we will write our own versions that could happen.
Also there are activities that reinforce topics covered in class which I hope you will find fun and easily accessible at home.  If you do have any problems accessing the resources then please do email the school and inform me so that I can sort this for you.  Keep aiming high and trying your best!

Reading
-Continue to read regularly with an adult or sibling - I frequently add new games and resources onto Bug Club and I can see who is reading these books so that I can issue another one.  There are activities to support spelling and phonics so do check online.
-I have included a Bug Club trouble shooting guide if you have any problems, see below.

Spelling
-How many of the spelling word lists can you spell?  Set yourself a realistic target to achieve this week and aim to learn the words you target.  As the weather is nice now you could write these with chalk outside or write them on stones.  Even inside you can play hangman to learn them with an adult or use different coloured pens to practise writing them out.

English/Topic
-Watch the video of The Queen's Hat (see resources).  I have included an audio version so that you can read the book right through or pause on the pages to look at the words and pictures.
-Discuss each scene.  What are the guardsmen doing?  What is the Queen doing?  What is the dog doing?
-Draw speech or thought bubbles for the Queen, guardsmen or the dog.
-What questions might you have for the Queen or guardsmen?
-Create a word bank of movement verbs for the hat.  Eg, soared and whooshed.  Collect them all throughout the book.  Can you add any more verbs that could make sense?  My ideas are:  The Queen's hat twirled up into the air and The Queen's hat somersaulted off the back of a double-decker bus.  Write your ideas in your exercise book.
-Take a look at the outdoor learning link and 18 outdoor activities poster.

Maths
-Log onto TTRS.  I have even had a go on there and am gaining points!
-Problem of the Day.  There is a slide for each day and has various problems including maths topics we have covered in class.
-Practical activities using number cards.  I have included the Y1/2 suggestions and 3/4 suggestions so have a look at which card games you could play throughout the week.

Science
-Use the Humans and Animals Knowledge Organiser to help you with this unit.
-Think about:  What do humans need to survive?  Why do we need food?  Why do we need water?  What do animals need to survive?  What would happen if their needs were not met?
-Make a list of all the things that make you happy.  I have attached a table if you wish to use this format.
-Find and draw a picture of an animal in the middle of your page.  Around it draw/write what it needs.

RE
-Watch the video of the story of Thomas.  What does the word 'doubt' me?  Record some of the reasons why Thomas found it hard to believe that Jesus was alive.

PE
-Enjoy Super Movers and check the weekly PE activities on the whole school page.
