Phonics

As we only have a four day week, please can you do two phonics sessions in one day on one of the days this week?

Monday

Practise reading all the sounds/phonemes in phase 2 and 3.  If your child is struggling with some sounds, practise these sounds every day for the rest of the week.

Read through all the high frequency words learnt so far in phase 2 and 3.

Today we are reading two syllable words.  Read the following words and sort them into those that we have at school and some that we have at home, bedroom, teacher, rooftop, pen-pot, sister, lunchbox. Some words may be in both school and home. 

Practise spelling pigpen, bookshop & market.

Read yes/no questions, Will six cows fit in a car? Can coins sing a song? Will all shop sell nails?

Tuesday 

Practise reading all the sounds/phonemes in phase 2 and 3.  If your child is struggling with some sounds, practise these sounds every day for the rest of the week.

Read through all the high frequency words learnt so far in phase 2 and 3.

Read the story, On the farm.

Write the following sentences:

The farmer gets up at six.

He has to feed the cows and the sheep.

Play sentence substitution on phonics play:

You can hear a goat/toad/song/see/coin.

Wednesday

Practise reading all the sounds/phonemes in phase 2 and 3.  If your child is struggling with some sounds, practise these sounds every day for the rest of the week.

Read through all the high frequency words learnt so far in phase 2 and 3.

Read the story, In Town.

Write the following sentences: Jill has fair hair but Jack has dark hair.

Read the questions and answer yes or no,

Can a chicken sit on a chair?

Can a coach zoom into the air?

Can a coat hang on a hook?

Thursday

Practise spelling the phase two tricky words and high frequency words.

Read the story In a Wigwam

Write the following sentences;

Jim has seven silver coins.

He gets sweets with them.

Play sentence substitution on phonics play with the sentence,

They might meet in the town/market/summer/we/fish.

Friday

Practise reading all the sounds/phonemes in phase 2 and 3.  If your child is struggling with some sounds, practise these sounds every day for the rest of the week.

Read through all the high frequency words learnt so far in phase 2 and 3.

Play buried treasure on phonics play using the words feel, fork, pear, thin, fair, quib, chull, woin, jung, zain.

Read the questions and answer yes or no,

Can ducks see fish in rivers?

Can you hear bees buzzing now?
