Science - Friday

As this week is science week and the sun has been shining (more at the beginning of the week!) we thought the children might enjoy exploring shadows and investigating how they are made.  On a sunny, clear day please go outside and make different shadow shapes with your bodies and hands. How can you make your shadow taller and wider? Can you jump on your shadow?  What happens to your shadow if you move your body to different places in relation to the sun? How do you think shadows are made?  Can you find a way to hide from your shadow?
Next try taking an object outside and drawing around it if you have some chalk.  Return to the object a few hours later. Has the shadow changed? Can you describe how it has changed?

If we are unlucky with the sunshine, try making a shadow puppet and make it move in a dark room. Where do you need to put the torch? What happens when you move the torch closer and further away?
We are really looking forward to seeing the photos or drawings of  what you have found out.
