English

Monday

Today in English we are going to think about Martin and what he looks like.  Then I will explain to the children that we are going to draw and name their very own alien. I will encourage the children to be as creative as they can. I will show the children how to draw an alien by drawing an alien on a big piece of paper and as I draw my alien I will use words to describe it. For example, “My alien is called Bob. He has got five long, thin legs with knobbly knees. His feet are wide and long with three fat toes on each foot.  I am going to give him three bulging, goggly eyes and above each eye he has got three triangle shaped eyebrows.  Instead of ears attached to his head, my alien has got antennae and on the end of each curly antennae there is one ear shaped like a cone. My alien, Bob has got four arms. Two on each side of its body and instead he has four, gnarly fingers at the end of each arm.”

Then once I have drawn my alien and described it I will talk about how my alien speaks.  I will write a speech bubble then write down some alien words that it is saying. For example, “bleep, bloop, bock, ting, ting” etc.  I will ask the children for ideas and then we will write the words using our phonics knowledge.

Then the children will draw their own aliens with a speech bubble with alien words in. I will also support the children in writing few sentences describing their alien.

Tuesday

Today the children are going to design a house for their alien. They will choose a planet for their alien to live on and then draw their own house. I demonstrate to the children drawing an alien house using the children’s ideas. I will model labelling my house for Bob the alien.  Encourage your child to draw their own house for their alien and label its parts.

Wednesday

Today we are going to think of a journey (story) that our alien can go on.  We will think about what Martin did and think about what could Bob do? I will use the children’s ideas and I will draw a picture for each part of the story to make a story map.  We won’t make the story too long.  I will be intrigued to see your story maps for your story.

Thursday

Today we will be using our story map to write our own alien story.  My story will be called ‘Bob!’ and we will use our story map and write our sentences to go with each picture.  Encourage your child to write a story to go with their pictures from yesterday.  Encourage your child to say a sentence out loud that matches their picture telling their story.  Ask them to repeat the sentence. The write that sentence one word at a time. What you could do to help your child is you could write some words and your child could write some words in each sentence if you think they will find writing the whole story too much.  I look forward to reading your stories.

Friday

Today we will be celebrating our topic on Space by making UFO pizzas.

You can see a recipe for the pizza attached.
