Inspire Day

St Mary’s were excited to welcome Will Tidball, GB cyclist, to their school to open their new running track and to share with them his journey to success as part of the school’s Aim High Values.

The all weather running track extends around the perimeter of the school grounds and offers the pupils a focus for their daily mile.

Rachel Burrough, PE Coordinator and senior teacher at St Mary’s explained; “It has taken us over two years to get to this moment today but it has been so fantastic to see the children’s enthusiasm. Will’s workshops and whole school assembly really motivated all of our pupils. It was also exciting that Will was able to tell us that he is now a professional cyclist. He told the children about his success and also some of the challenges he has had to overcome. What a great example to our pupils of aiming high and resilience; two of our school values."

Mrs Mannix, Headteacher added, “It really has been a community effort to raise the funds for the track. Rachel was the driving force and we are so grateful to her and the parents through the PTFA who contributed to some of the cost. The children love it and even our youngest pupils are already running a daily mile."

Will was a pupil at St Joseph’s in Exmouth, another school in The Plymouth CAST Trust.
