Year One Phonics – Friday

Recap all the sounds (phonemes) and high frequency words learnt so far. Use either the power points, phonics play or the flash cards that have been sent home over the year.  It is really important to keep practising reading the sounds (phonemes) and high frequency words. If your child is struggling with learning a particular sound or word, write it on a piece of paper and stick it around the house in different places and get your child to go round the house finding it and reading it.  Another trick to help read sounds or words that don’t seem to be sinking in is to write them in a grid.  Choose 4 words or sounds to use.  When working with the grid you ask your child to read the sounds/words across the row in the grid.  If they don’t know the sound/word you tell them what it is and they repeat it after you.  This is an effective way of learning sounds/words.  I have attached one for you as an example.

Teach spelling the words ‘said’ and ‘so’. Encourage your child to write the words out a few times so they can remember how to spell them.

Watch Geraldine the Giraffe teach 'ie' on You Tube by following the link.

Follow the ‘ie’ lesson on Bug Club.

As well as the words on the Bug Club lesson read the words tie, pie, lie & die.

As well as writing the words on the Bug Club lesson spell the words pie, tie, lie & die.

Read and write the sentence, ‘I cook a pie.’

Please upload photos onto Tapestry of your work.

Thank you
