Monday Phonics

Recap all the sounds and words learnt so far in phases 2, 3 and 4 using the power points attached or phonics play. 

Practise spelling the phase 3 high frequency words. Choose 5 to practise each day then once they are memorised, move onto the next five.

Find the phonics video ‘ee as ea’ on Bug Club and follow the video. Make sure you join in with the alphabet song first.  You could also watch Mr Thorne teach the ea for /ee/ sound.

Read the words beach, feast, cream, bean & leaf.

Spell the word treat, see, read, meat, least.

Using Phonics play, go to phase 5 and sentence substitution. Find the sentence Paul eats peas with his meat.  Read the sentence with your child and encourage them to change the sentence by changing some of the words.

Tuesday Phonics

Recap all the sounds and words learnt so far in phases 2, 3 and 4 using the power points attached or phonics play. 

Practise spelling the phase 3 high frequency words. Choose 5 to practise each day then once they are memorised, move onto the next five.

Teach your child to read the tricky words ‘oh’, ‘their’ & ‘by’.  You could write these out on pieces of paper twice and play a pairs game to try to learn them.

Follow the Bug Club lesson on ‘oi as oy’. Make sure you join in with the alphabet song first. You can also watch Mr Thorne teach oi & oy.

Practise reading the words annoy, annoying, oyster, destroy, boy & toy.

Practise spelling the words boy, toy, joy, enjoy, royal & Roy.

 

Go on the Phonics Play website and choose phase 5 under the resources tab.  Choose the sentence substitution game.  Play sentence substitution on Phonics Play and choose the sentence, ‘Loud sounds can be annoying.’

Thursday Phonics

Recap all the sounds and words learnt so far in phases 2, 3 and 4 using the power points attached or phonics play. 

Practise spelling the phase 3 high frequency words. Choose 5 to practise each day then once they are memorised, move onto the next five.

Find the Bug Club lesson ‘oo as ue’. Make sure you join in with the alphabet song first. You can also watch Geraldine teach ue.

Teach your child to spell the tricky words have & like.

Practise reading the words clue, blue, issue, true, glue, Sue.

Practise spelling clue, blue, issue, Sue, tissue & clue.

Read the sentence: The glue is blue.

Wednesday Phonics

Recap all the sounds and words learnt so far in phases 2, 3 and 4 using the power points attached or phonics play. 

Practise spelling the phase 3 high frequency words. Choose 5 to practise each day then once they are memorised, move onto the next five.

Go onto Bug Club and choose the ‘ur as ir’ lesson. Make sure you join in with the alphabet song first.

Follow the lesson. You can also watch Mr Thorne teach er, ur & ir.

Play the buried treasure game on Phonics Play. Choose phase 5 under the resources game. Choose Buried Treasure, phase five and the ‘ir’ sound/phoneme.

Practise spelling the words fir, skirt, shirt, girl, bird, birthday.

Write the caption ‘The girl got a bird for her birthday.’

Friday Phonics

Recap all the sounds and words learnt so far in phases 2, 3 and 4 using the power points attached or phonics play. 

Practise spelling the phase 3 high frequency words. Choose 5 to practise each day then once they are memorised, move onto the next five.

Teach the children that ‘ue’ can also sound like the word ‘you’ and it sounds like this in the following words… cue, due, value, statue, rescue & hue
