The joy of gathering to listen to God’s Word.

Show the picture from God’s Story 1 pages 30-31. The picture shows a story from the Gospel (Mark 10: 13,14-16).  We listen to God’s Word when we gather at Mass. Look at the notes God’s Story 1 page 48 if you wish.

Tell your child…

Jesus loved everyone, he was kind and gentle.  Parents and carers brought their children to Jesus for him to bless.  Some people thought the children should not be bothering Jesus.  But Jesus loved all the children and said, “Let the children come to me.”  So, the children gathered round Jesus and loved being with Jesus.  Jesus loved the children.

You could ask the following questions…

  • Why did the children want to be near Jesus?
  • Would you like to be there too, why?
  • What did some people think?
  • What do you think Jesus said to the children?
  • What does the story tell you about Jesus?

Write our names around the picture from the story.

Make little stick puppets or use Lego figures or other toys you have at home to be the children and Jesus and a few adult. Re-enact the story using the stick puppets or figures.  Talk about the story.

(Put a picture of God’s story on a lectern to tell other children about God’s story.)
