Fairtrade

Fairtrade at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

We can do small things with great love.

The Fairtrade Foundation was established in 1992 by CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Traidcraft (now the UK’s leading Fairtrade company), the World Development Movement, and the National Federation of Women’s Institutes in response to poverty in the developing world. The Foundation’s mission is to work with businesses, community groups and individuals to improve the trading position of producer organisations in developing countries and to deliver sustainable livelihoods for farmers, workers and their communities.

At St. Mary’s we are committed to supporting Fairtrade wherever possible.  Fairtrade makes sure that farmers and producers in poorer countries get a fair price for their products to help them support their families and develop their communities.  We believe that buying Fairtrade products will make a difference.

This year our school council has been preparing workshops to share knowledge of Fairtrade principles with all pupils across the school and to remind them how buying Fairtrade products can make a huge difference to others in the world.

Our school council aims to make sure that all our pupils will be aware of Fairtrade and Fairtrade fortnight.
